Victor Jara fue profesor, director de teatro, poeta, cantautor, activista político y miembro del Partido Comunista de Chile. Se desarrollo en el área musical y jugó un rol fundamental entre los artistas neo-folcloristas, quienes establecieron la Nueva Canción Chilena, movimiento que llevó a una revolución en la música popular de su país bajo el gobierno de Salvador Allende. Poco tiempo después del golpe militar en Chile (11 de septiembre de 1973) fue arrestado, torturado y finalmente asesinado a tiros. El contraste entre los temas de sus canciones, de amor, paz y justicia social, y la forma brutal en que fue asesinado transformaron a Jara en un símbolo de lucha por los derechos humanos y justicia a lo largo de Latinoamérica.

Víctor Jara was a Chilean teacher, theatre director, poet, singer-songwriter, political activist and member of the Communist Party of Chile. He developed in the field of music and played a pivotal role among neo-folkloric artists who established the Nueva Canción Chilena (New Chilean Song) movement which led to a revolution in the popular music of his country under Salvador Allende's government.  Shortly after the Chilean coup (11 September 1973) he was arrested, tortured and ultimately shot to death. The contrast between the themes of his songs, on love, peace and social justice and the brutal way in which he was murdered transformed Jara into a symbol of struggle for human rights and justice across Latin America.

Cueca es el nombre del baile nacional de Chile, se baila en el país mayoritariamente durante las fiestas del 18 de septiembre. El origen del baile ha generado un debate intenso.

La cueca ha sido el baile nacional de Chile desde 1979 y se expresa de variadas formas en las diferentes áreas del país. Hay una cueca nortina, una chilota, una brava o chora,  una urbana y la tradicional, la que se baila en la zona central. 
Un huaso y una china son la pareja de baile. La coreografía es una representación de coqueteo y conquista.  Se dice que la cueca viene de la palabra clueca, que se refiere al momento en que una gallina está a punto de poner sus huevos. Esto hace que el baile simbolice el ritual de apareamiento entre el gallo y la gallina.

Los Jaivas | Música chilena | Chilean music

Los Jaivas es una banda chilena con mucha historia. Aparecieron en la música en 1963 como una banda de rock andino progresista, mezclando rock con música ancestral latinoamericana.

La banda se refugió en Argentina luego del golpe miliar en Chile. En 1977 se fueron a Francia donde residieron por un largo tiempo. El mayor cambio en la banda ocurrió en 1988, cuando Gabriel Parra murió en Perú en un accidente de auto. Su hija Juanita tomó su lugar en la batería. En enero del 2003, el vocalista princial, Gato Alquinta murió en Coquimbo, Chile. Sufrió un ataque al corazón cuando nadaba en el mar. Poco tiempo después, los tres hijos de Gato se unieron a la banda para reemplazarlo. (Info de Wikipedia)

Los Jaivas are a Chilean band with a lot of history. Los Jaivas appeared in Chilean music in 1963 as a progressive-rock-andino group, mixing rock with South American ancestral music.

The band took refuge in Argentina after the military dictatorship took over in Chile. In 1977, they headed to France, where they resided for a long time. The first major change in the band occurred in 1988 when Gabriel Parra died in Peru in a car crash. His daughter Juanita took his place behind the drums. In January 2003, the main singer, Gato Alquinta, died in Coquimbo, Chile, of a heart attack while swimming in the sea. Violeta Parra | Música chilena | Chilean music

Considered one of the most versatile artists to emerge from Chile in the 20th century, Violeta Parra remains as one of the most powerful representatives of the nueva canción movement. Parra would explore a multitude of platforms for her message of peace and social justice, from music to poetry and painting. One of her most celebrated (and widely recorded) compositions is "Gracias a la Vida".
